A83: when will work start?
‘We want a firm plan of action’ - Kelly
Published:  20 June, 2008

COUNCILLOR Donald Kelly asked Jim Mather MSP for a firm plan of action to combat the problems of the A83.

At a meeting of the Kintyre Initiative Working Group Councillor Kelly firstly asked for an update on the Rest and Be Thankful landslip where temporary traffic lights are still in place.

Secondly he asked for information about the upgrading of the road between Tarbert and Ardrishaig after hauliers attended the last meeting and lastly Councillor Kelly brought up his concerns about the stretch of the A83 between Kennacraig and Campbeltown.

This was regarding the ‘trunking’ of this road, and the concerns of widening it, as well as its conditions and the areas where there are serious problems. If these were not addressed Campbeltown could be cut off.

Jim Mather explained that the issues with the A83 are well registered with the Transport Minister.

He said: ‘The biggest issue is to get the infrastructure addressed in order to deliver a better future.’

Ferry

Mr Mather also said that if Campbeltown was to get a ferry then the issues Donald Kelly brought up would be resolved.

However, he didn’t say whether the issues would be addressed if a ferry service was not started.

Councillor Kelly said: ‘We want a firm plan of action raised regarding the roads and I am looking for it to be brought to the next meeting of the Kintyre Initiative Working Group.’
