AFTER Environmental Wardens and the police teamed up to patrol Kintyre’s streets for litter louts five people have been issued with fixed penalties.
The teams were out in force as part of a national day of action on litter with the aim of this event to try to reduce littering in Scotland through a joint operation with local authorities, the police and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Argyll and Bute Council’s environment spokesman, councillor Robert Mcintyre, said: ‘I am delighted that the joint litter campaign was such a huge success, with five people in Kintyre issued with £50 fines.
‘We will continue to be vigilant in targeting the minority of irresponsible people who continue to contaminate our towns and villages by dropping litter.
‘Argyll and Bute hosts many visitors who come to this area for its outstanding beauty and cleanliness and the last thing we want is for them to be greeted with unsightly litter.’
