IT WAS a weekend for the McCallum family out at Machrihanish Golf Club and the late Councillor ‘Baldie’ McCallum would have been proud of them all.

The winning team of the Am-Am contained one of his sons and grandson – Dougie and Kevin McCallum, along with John McKinlay and Donnie McLean, who won the first prize at net 57.

Then young grandson Graeme McKillop won the George Durnan Cup. He was presented with his trophy by Margaret Innes, the Captain’s wife.

The competition was run in connection with the 23rd Golf Festival week, with competitions, tuition and entertainment throughout the week.

This included a quiz on the Tuesday night with quizmaster Jimmy Simpson. The quiz raised nearly £100 for the Campbeltown branch of RNLI.

The week started off with a welcome reception which was sponsored by Jura Malt, McMillan Seafoods, Inverloch Cheese, and Arran Foods.

The easterly wind proved tough for the 60 visitors and all the local competitors who took part.
