Councillors say no to holiday caravans
Published:  22 May, 2008

A PLAN to have two caravans for holiday letting on land north east of Kilchrist Castle Cottages, Campbeltown has been refused by councillors.

Members of the Mid Argyll Kintyre and Islay area committee were told the plan would extend an existing car park, have a septic tank and a connection to the public water main.

Five letters objecting to the plans had been received by Argyll and Bute Council.

The plan met with some council approvals – it was in a ‘rural opportunity area’ and the council did support small-scale tourism, but it failed on access grounds.

Officers ruled that both the public road and private way leading to the site were not adequate to serve extra development without improvements.

‘As the applicant is not in a position to secure a legal agreement with third parties to bring about access improvements consistent with the requirements, the proposal fails to meet the requirements of access and road safety grounds,’ a report said and councillors then agreed to refuse permission.
