Boys come through to win
Published:  09 May, 2008

CAMPBELTOWN BOYS Boys came through last weekends match against Castlemilk Amateurs, (May 2nd), with an excellent win, after coming from behind to win 3-2 at the Meadows.

On a sun-drenched though wind-swept playing surface, the Whisky Macs sponsored Boys made a calm start to the match, and after 20 minutes, took their first clear opportunity, James Armour scoring with a brilliant strike from wide on the left – hand side of the box, after Scott MacBrayne’s lengthy kick from the Boys’ own box.

This lead only encouraged Castlemilk, top of Premier Division Two, to try with increased fervour to equalise.

This they did, a ball being fired across goal for a Castlemilk attacker to tap home and level the scores.

This poor marking was replicated by the Boys less than five minutes later, as another ball was played across goal, this time from the right rather than the left side, for Castlemilk to go 2-1 up.

The Boys were to determine the half-time score though, and Mark Davis equalised after a scramble at the edge of the box, to smoothly score from 15 yards with his left foot, into the Castlemilk ‘keepers bottom left hand corner.

So, into the second half the Whisky Macs sponsored Boys knew that the inevitable push from Castlemilk to salvage some reward from the match would come, especially as they were shooting down the slope.

It would take defensive solidity and a great deal of fortune for the Boys to repel the Premier Two table-toppers. This was ensured, with Kenny Galbraith, Tommy Finn, Alan Reid and Archie Johnstone marshalling the Castlemilk onslaught well.

Then on 72 minutes, Boys’ captain Alan Reid powered home Alistair McConnachie’s front-post corner, to give the Boys a 3-2 lead.

Castlemilk tried and failed to breach the Boys’ net, with Scott MacBrayne securing some vital catches.

A fine win for the Boys, and another home match is to be played tomorrow, Saturday May 10th, against mid-table Arkleston, kick-off 2.30pm at The Meadows.
