A FIRST-class Campbeltown Boys performance ensured an emphatic 3-0 away win on Saturday when they travelled to the banks of the Clyde to take on Port Glasgow OBU.
A hard-working and committed team performance earned what could be a valuable three points for the Whisky Macs sponsored side as they bid to climb off the bottom of the Premier Two table.
An encouraging start to the match from the local side was rewarded when Tommy Finn rose above the Port defence to power a header past the goalkeeper from Ranald Watson’s near post corner. The goal was Finn’s first strike for the club and was the highlight of a dominant aerial performance from the defender.
The Boys’ pace going forward was troubling their opponents and winger Mark Davis used his speed to create chances for himself and Robert McGarrie but the scoreline remained 1-0 at the break.
As the half wore on the Boys came back into the game and clinched the win with two late strikes from McGarrie, the second coming after Port Glasgow had a man dismissed for dissent following a stoppage time flare-up.
The Boys will be looking to take their excellent performance into cup duty tomorrow (Saturday) when they take on Dunoon in the quarter finals of the Jimmy Marshall Cup. What should be a cracking tie kicks off at 2pm at the Meadows.
