Kintyre Angling Club opened their season at the Lussa loch with their Annual Opening Day Competition on Saturday, March 15.
Despite the cold weather hopes were high as the loch had been recently stocked with 450 rainbow trout between 2.5lbs to 5lbs a few weeks before the season started to give the fish a good chance to spread out over the loch.
The day was a great success with 21 members attending and a good number of fish being caught.
John McCallum caught the largest trout of the day with a stunning rainbow trout weighing in at 3lbs 13ozs which is believed to be the biggest fish ever landed on the clubs opening day.
The overall winner was Robert Wilson who handed in a basket of two rainbow trout weighing in at 6lbs also believed to be the heaviest basket for an opening day competition.
Sadly the Junior members competing never managed to connect with a fish but with approximately 1500 brown trout still to be stocked into Auchalochy and the Lussa Loch soon there will be plenty opportunity for them to get into some good fishing.
The results for the day were as follows: Stewart McGougan, One Rainbow Trout for 2 lbs 5 ozs; John McDonald, Two Brown Trout for 1lb; Alex McAllister, One Rainbow Trout for 3lbs 4ozs, Paul Quinn, One Rainbow Trout for 2lbs, George E Antill, One Rainbow Trout for 2lbs 13ozs; John McCallum, One Rainbow Trout for 3lbs 13ozs (Heaviest fish), Robert Wilson, Two Rainbow Trout for 6 lbs (Heaviest Basket).
The next competition will be held at Auchalochy on Sunday 20th April at 2pm.
