THE entrance to Campbeltown from the A83 is in the process of being tidied up thanks to the Employability Team.

The old crumbling wall at the BT yard, at Snipefield Industrial Estate was taken away and a two-foot trench is being dug to put a hedge in to cover up the eye sore as you come into the town.

This is after an action plan for Campbeltown and Kintyre was drawn up by Argyll and Bute Council as a result of the study completed by the consultants known as the Yellow book.

One of the recommendations was to ‘identify and implement feasible upgrades to the entrance of the town from the A83.’

This has been achieved by Argyll and Bute Council, with the assistance of the Employability team and co-operation of adjacent landowners, including BT, and they have been working over the past few weeks to complete environmental improvements next to Snipefield Industrial Estate.

Councillor Rory Colville said: ‘I am delighted that after many months of discussions, an agreement has been reached between parties and I hope that the improvements will highlight Campbeltown Community Council’s theme of taking pride in your town.’

A council spokeswoman said: ‘The Council’s Employability Team has recently cut down the overgrown bushes and trees, removed the rubbish and knocked down the wall on a piece of ground at the entrance to the town.

‘They are now levelling the area to be grass seeded. The team’s customers have worked hard and gained new skills in this project enhancing their employment opportunities while improving the local landscape.’
