Noreen bows out at High Street
Published:  07 March, 2008

AFTER more than 100 years in business, the High Street Post Office was the first out of two local post offices to shut.

Noreen Smith, who has owned the business for 41 years closed its doors after a national Post Office money saving tactic, which will see 2500 across the UK being shut. High Street Post Office celebrated its centenary in 2001, and on its final day customers were greeted with refreshments as they carried out their business.

Although Noreen is looking forward to retirement she said she will miss her customers the most. She said: ‘If the Post Office had stayed open it would have been quite nice.

‘I would like to thanks all my customers, past and present and everyone for the wonderful gifts I have been given.’

The other Post Office which was closed was at Ralston Road.
