TWO members of the Campbeltown fire crew have received their long service and good conduct medals for each completing 20 years service with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue.

Area Commander John Ironside travelled from Helensburgh to present the medals to Watch commander Ronnie Souden and Crew Commander John Wareham at a ceremony at Campbeltown Fire station on Tuesday night, attended by the fire crews of both Campbeltown and Carradale stations.

Mr Ironside praised the men for ‘20 years exemplary service and commitment’.

He added: ‘The commitment, dedication and professionalism of the retained and volunteer fire crews is a credit to everyone of you.’

John Wareham said: ‘You really wonder where the 20 years have gone. I enjoy my time in the fire service working with a lot of good people.’

Ronnie Souden, who was called a ‘an exceptional fire fighter and a great gaffer’ said: ‘We don’t get where we are by ourselves; we need everybody.’ He added: ‘I’ve served with three excellent watch commanders: Jim Martin, Jock Armour and the late Pete Stimson.’
