CAMPBELTOWN Pupils are still on course for a return to the premier division after a hard fought win last Saturday against Clydebank side Kilbowie Union.

Two goals from all action teenage midfielder David McGeachy gave the Pupils a well-deserved win. Four changes were made from the previous week’s line up with Andy Robertson making a welcome return to the side.

Kintyre Park was very soft and difficult for both sides to play a passing game and the early play was bogged down in midfield. The best move of the first half resulted in the Pupil’s opening goal.

Lewis McKay and Jamie Morris linked up to free David Anderson on the right and his cross was headed into net by McGeachy.

Robertson and Craig Slowey both came close to increasing the Pupil’s lead before half time but Kilbowie survived a mini siege on their goal.

Kilbowie were rarely seen as an attacking force in the first half their strikers were policed by the Pupil’s central defensive partnership of Shaun Grumoli and Norman Thomson.

However they shocked the Pupil’s early in the second half by grabbing the equaliser.

Neil McKay tried to scoop up a loose ball in the six-yard box but the ball fell at the feet of Gary Ross to score into an unguarded net.

Minutes later Ewan Milroy came to the Pupil’s rescue with a last ditch tackle preventing a certain goal.

Kilbowie were reduced to ten men at 64 minutes when goal-scorer Ross was sent off by referee John Scott following a clash with McIlroy.

The Pupils piled on the pressure in the final quarter looking for the winner. Shaun Grumoli came close with a free kick and they also had a decent claim for a penalty turned down.

Eight minutes from the end the Pupils managed to get the winner. Fraser Wylie sent an in swinging corner which was missed by Kilbowie goalkeeper Cameron but McGeachy was on hand to force the ball over the line and the youngster was mobbed by his delighted team-mates.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see the Pupils travel to play Eaglesham.

Members draw: Paul Grumoli (Snr) £50; Alex McPhee £20; Kiaran McPherson £10.
