Down Memory Lane
Published: 11 January, 2008
This wonderful photograph of Whitehouse was featured on a postcard from the start of the 20th century. Back then it cost a half penny to post if you only put the sender’s name and address on and a penny if you wanted to add a personal message as well. Before decimalisation there were 12 pennies in a shilling, which was the equivalent to day’s five pence and there were 20 shillings in a pound.
