EVA MacDonald has had a lifetime of nursing and voluntary service recognised with the presentation of her MBE at Buckingham Place by HRH the Prince of Wales.
‘It really was a super day,’ said Eva. Husband Chris, daughter Christine and grandson Christopher accompanied Eva to the investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Eva, originally from Kensaleyre, Skye, qualified as a Registered General Nurse at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness in 1960 and moved to Glasgow to work at the Southern General Hospital and then at the city’s Western Infirmary.
She and husband Christopher moved to Campbeltown in 1966 and Eva became the matron at Auchinlee Hospital were she worked for almost 20 years.
Nursing
Then Eva moved to private nursing with the British Nursing Association and travelled all over Argyll, to Helensburgh and Stirlingshire to care for private patients. She also worked as a relief nurse in Rothesay, Dunoon and Arran.
Retirement didn’t suit Eva and in 2002 she applied for and became a bank nurse at Campbeltown Hospital and she also works at the practice in Carradale.
Eva is just as well known for her voluntary work; she served for 25 years on the Children panel and in September 2004 was presented with a crystal rose bowl by the then First Minister Jack McConnell at a ceremony organised by the Scottish Executive and also with a quaich from Convener Billy Petrie at an Argyll and Bute Council ceremony.
Eva has been a member of the Kintyre Crime Prevention Panel for 22 years, during which she was chairwoman for 14 years.
If that were not enough she added a new string to her bow when three years ago she trained as and then became a volunteer with the Witness Service and Victim Support Scotland.
