IN theIR battle against not only Eaglesham but also the weather during their Premier Division One game on Saturday Campbeltown Pupils collected all three points at a storm-lashed Kintyre park.
A howling gale and driving rain made good football near impossible but the Pupils coped better with the conditions than the visiting side and were deserved winners of the match against Eaglesham.
The pupils captain Craig Colville won the toss and elected to play with the wind at his back and kick towards the Limecraigs end of the ground.
The visitors goal was soon under siege as the pupils used the advantage of the wind.
However Eaglesham defended with great determination inside a packed penalty box for over thirty minutes before the Pupils got the breakthrough aided by a stroke of luck.
Darren McGillveray sent in a cross from the left that completely wrong-footed the Eaglesham keeper and ended up in the back of the net.
McGillveray made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time, this time scoring direct from a corner, to give the Pupils the cushion of a two-goal lead before having to face the elements again in the second half of the match.
The pupils back four of Norman Thomson, David Anderson, Craig Colville and Jamie Burns defended with great resolve in the second half protecting their keeper, Neil McKay.
McKay had only one real save of note in the half turning a low drive away for a corner.
Despite having to defend deep the Pupils midfield were eager to support the front two.
Leading goal-scorer Grumolis’ link up play was superb throughout the match with the young striker adding a new dimension to his game.
In the final quarter the Pupils sent on three teenage subs; David McGeachy, Jamie Morris and Lorne Robertson and it was Morris that scored the third skillfully - dribbling round the keeper to roll the ball into the empty net to make it 3-0 and round off a superb display by the Campbeltown side.
The White Hart Hotel and MTM plumbing and heating sponsored Pupils would like thank the supporters who turned up on such a horrible day.
Tomorrow, Saturday, December 1 Pupils are playing away to Rutherglen.
The Members club draw from Saturday:
1 £50 Alex McPhee, 2 £20 Lisa Hardie, 3 £10 Lorna Robertson.
