IN THE Provan Shield Whisky Macs played Davaar at Kinloch Park on Sunday afternoon with Whiskys taking the lead as early as the third minute through Neily Brodie.
But Davaar equalised one minute later through a corner by Greig Flaws.
Both sides had chances later in the first half but no other goals were scored.
Straight from the second half kick-off Whiskys took the lead through Chris MacAllister. Another few chances were opened up for Whiskys who squandered them. A Ranald Watson free kick from 25 yards then made it 2-2.
Both sides went looking for the crucial third goal but it ended 2-2 on the 90-minute mark.
The game then went into extra time to decide who would go through to play Ardrishaig in next week’s semi-final for the Provan Shield.
Defending champions Whiskys made it 3-2 when MacAllister scored his second after an excellent run and then, with five minutes remaining, a freak goal made it 4-2 to Whisky Macs. Whisky Macs defender Ian McLennan took a shot which hit off defender Steven Scott who put it into his own goal. Final score 4-2.
Davaar did put up a good fight throughout the match but Whisky Macs showed the fitness to come through in the end and go one step closer to retaining the shield.
Other scores in the Campbeltown and District AFL Provan Shield were: Carradale 3, Ardrishaig 4; Lochgilphead 1, Southend 1 (1-1 AET, Southend win 3-1 on penalties).
Forthcoming fixtures: Southend v Campbeltown United, referee S Gorman; Ardrishaig v Whisky Macs, referee Peter MacCallum.
