PEOPLE from all over Argyll and Bute joined at the Heritage Centre to take part in a cultural seminar to improve culture and the arts in the area.
They took part in discussion sessions organised by Kintyre Cultural Forum to look at the possibility of a website and forum as well as the idea for an arts centre being created in Campbeltown.
Short presentations were made by guests who made up a panel including Jenny Carlile, Caroline Docherty, Dr Donald Smith, Deirdre Henderson and Douglas Philand from Argyll and Bute Council. A question and answer session followed the presentations.
Stalls were also put up by a number of groups including Edinburgh Cultural Partnership, Campbeltown Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme and the Scottish Arts Council.
Douglas Philand, deputy spokesman for arts, culture and leisure for Argyll and Bute Council said: ‘I found it very useful to the council and think it’s been very constructive.
‘Had a really good day, and we were fortunate to have people from further afield come down too.’
The group arranged to come back after Christmas with a report including all the views of those who turned up on the day. They will then decide what the next steps should be and arrange another meeting.
They are looking to encourage groups and individuals who might use the art centre and website to contact them.
Iain Johnstone said: ‘It went really well. There was lots of local interest and both the arts centre and the idea of a website generated a lot of interest and comment.
‘Special thanks to all the organisations who came down and put up stalls and stands and also special thanks to the Heritage Centre for their hospitality and supplying the food.’
