A REPEAT of last year’s finalists but certainly not a repeat score as Southend secured their first piece of silverware of the season with a comprehensive 5-1 over Carradale in the Dalriada Cup Final.
Looking for revenge for their 3-1 defeat last year, Southend were worthy winners as they raced to a 4-1 half time lead before adding another in the second half to take the cup home.
A healthy crowd of over 200 turned up at Kinloch Green and it wasn’t long before Southend showed their hunger for goal.
A superb save by Todd in the Carradale goals from a McConnachie header and a squandered chance by McKerral kept the score level until a rapid succession of goals from Southend.
Young Alistair McConnachie scored twice before Peter McKerral added a third from a tight angle. Cammy McGuire made it 4-0 with a penalty and it was all plain sailing for Southend. Credit to Carradale however, as they fought back into the game and made it 4-1 with the goal of the game from Gregor Croll.
The second half was similar to the first with Southend dominating in long spells as Cammy McGuire added his second and Southend’s fifth to run out convincing and worthy winners.
