YOUNG football enthusiasts from Campbeltown were given the chance to train with two coaches from Rangers Football Club when they visited the Meadows.
The Rangers Soccer Roadshow bombarded the playing fields with mannequins of Rangers footballers and transformed it into a training ground to encourage and help the children improve their football skills and to give the coaches a chance to recognise any talent in the area.
Over the two-day training session up to 26 youngsters joined coach, Paul Nash and youth development coach Gary Gibson, to learn more about football and the many techniques.
Coach Paul Nash has been with Rangers since 2004 and this is his second year doing the roadshow. He said: ‘The roadshow has been on going since Easter and we will visit a total of 33 places in the space of five months.
‘It’s great to see the smiles on their faces and seeing them improve on their current skills. They have a lot of fun on the course and meet new friends through it.’
The two days start at 10am with a warm-up of drills for 25 minutes, after this they are split in to two different groups, one goes with Paul and the other with Gary. Each group is taken round the six skills challenges set up. The group is also split into two different coloured teams to encourage the children not only to work to individual goals but also to work as a team. Each day their scores are recorded, and from all the children who take part at each road show, scores are added up and the top four wins a hospitality pass at Ibrox.
‘The whole idea of it is to reach to different places that are not in our usual areas. It’s a great opportunity and it gives us a chance to spot top talent out there,’ said Paul.
‘We have a mixed age group, the youngest this time is six and it ranges right up to 16.’
