CELIA Cameron and Valerie Marshall, joint winners of the Tayvallich Inn superCook challenge, were congratulated by celebrity chef Nick Nairn at Tarbert’s annual Seafood Festival last weekend.
Twenty entrants were whittled down to six finalists, all of whom prepared imaginative combinations of local produce and impressed the judges with clever food pairings and simple presentation.
Celia Cameron produced ‘the perfect fishcake’, served with a rum plum compote and lemon butter mushrooms, whilst judges felt that Valerie Marshall’s venison stroganoff with wild rice. roasted banana shallots and home-made olive and parmesan ciabatta showed a real understanding of flavours and texture.
Presenting the prizes, Nick Nairn said that it was excellent to see such enthusiasm for local produce: ‘Both recipes will probably appear in one of my cookbooks at some later date,’ he joked.
The winners will serve their dishes at The Tayvallich Inn, with the proceeds going to the charity of their choice.
