The contract Argyll and Bute Council has with the British Red Cross to carry out the service was due to run out at the end of March but has been extended for another month. The Courier understands Argyll and Bute Council is hopeful the money would be found to maintain this service,which has been described as ‘a lifeline’ to older and less mobile people living in rural locations. WORK on the New Quay in Campbeltown continued into the weekend of April 28-29 2012,with contractors Bam Nuttall deepening the berth so that larger vessels can access the quay. 
IT’S ONE of the area’s major assets – an 86-mile walking route taking in the beauties of the peninsula – but the future of the Kintyre Way is in jeopardy. 
SCOTTISH Hydro Electric has explained the reasons for the power failure that left most of Kintyre and the Isles in the dark for two and a half hours on Saturday evening. 
RESPONSES from Kintyre and the Isles are amongst those being considered from a survey by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) into issues affecting rural communities.
