Campbeltown’s new all-weather pitch officially opened

BALLOONS the colours of the Olympic rings created a spectacular climax to the official opening on September 21 2012 of Campbeltown’s new all weather pitch.

Local primary children set the balloons flying high into the sky, something hopefully the sporting success of the area will now do as well.

Mike Roberts,Sportscotland development manager, described the pitch as ‘a fantastic facility’.

‘I’m impressed on a number of levels but especially the fact the pitch has had 3,000 users in its first month alone,’ he said.

Also speaking before the event, councillor Dougie Philand said there were many people to thank for their hard work in bringing the facility about, but singled out David Paterson for his ongoing commitment since the pitch campaign began 10 years ago.

All who spoke agreed it was a day when the kids took centre stage, with four of the most promising youngsters co-ordinating the balloons’ release by primary aged children.
