A SUBSTANTIAL contribution towards the repair of Campbeltown Picture House has been welcomed.
Campbeltown Community Business Ltd, the group behind the restoration of what is considered to be Scotland’s oldest continually working cinema,is delighted with the £449,674 grant from Historic Scotland.
The Historic Scotland Repair Grant will enable the building to be conserved and repaired to the highest standard.
Chairwoman of Campbeltown Community Business Ltd and The Picture House (Campbeltown) Ltd,Jane Mayo told The Courier:‘The directors and the design team of the Picture House are delighted with the offer of grant assistance from Historic Scotland to conserve this internationally important cinema.’
They have already secured some funding towards the anticipated £2.5 million cost of these projects,and this latest cash boost will help them further to achieving this.
The Picture House celebrates its centenary on May 26,2013.
