Action from the first game on the new pitch on Monday.
AFTER a decade of campaigning,a facility that will make a huge difference to the sporting life of Campbeltown welcomed its first users this week.
‘An amazing facility’,was the verdict from the first footballers to play on the new all weather sports pitch, while for those who have been behind the campaign, watching the ball zip over the artificial turf was described as ‘a surreal moment’.
Announcing the opening of the new pitch to a meeting of interested users at Aqualibrium on Monday,Willie Young, leisure services manager with Argyll and Bute Council, explained the next six weeks will be a ‘bedding-in’ period,to ensure the rubber surface is properly spread.
‘This is quite a momentous day,and we have chosen a good one for it,’ Mr Young said as the group watched the first ever game on the new pitch.
During the bedding-in time, groups of players are invited to simply turn up to play without booking in advance, for a cost of £1 a head.
