THE HIGH standard in beef cattle on Islay was maintained this year at the island’s agricultural show when a spring-born Belgian Blue cross calf was named overall champion.
In a win that was reminiscent of the previous year when a month-old Charolais calf,GaGa Lady, won the overall prize,Neil MacDonald’s young calf Smarty Swagger gained universal approval as the judges top choice in 2012.
The calf is by Saints Braveheart, bred by Alastair Smart,Afford.
