As a result of the never-ending nature of this season, the travelling side could only muster a team of 14 players and hoped the hosts would apply the ‘Game On’ protocols, meaning they would match numbers and also play with 14.
However, with a squad of 22, Moffat chose not to and instead lent Lochaber a player.
The visitors made a great start, with an early try coming from winger Stuart Hinchcliffe. Quick ruck play and passing got the ball down the line to the winger, who used his pace to round the last defender and dive into the corner for the score.
Moffat came back at pace and took the lead, scoring a converted try after a couple of missed tackles from Lochaber.
In what was to be the pattern for the game, Lochaber almost immediately re-took the lead. Ronnie Fulford, playing at outside centre, powered over from short range. Ryan Davies added the extras.
Moffat re-took the lead, capitalising on a yellow card for flanker Ben Fulford and an injury to full back Davy Duncan, which had the visitors down to 13 players at this point and 14 for the remainder of the match.
Lochaber again used their speed out wide to send Ronnie Fulford in for his second.
Moffat stretched their lead when they were awarded a penalty try in contentious circumstances, with White deemed to have pushed an opponent off the ball in a race to gather a kick. A harsh decision, which once again had Lochaber down to 13 players.
The second half began with Lochaber having a try disallowed, after number eight Chris Simpson was ruled to have knocked on in grounding the ball.
Lochaber then faced a barrage of attacks from the hosts, following a loss of discipline and a host of penalties and the pressure eventually told, with Moffat taking a 28-19 lead.
Lochaber winger Toms Prusis scored the try of the match when collecting the ball in his own 22 and taking it the length of the pitch to dot down for the visitors’ fourth and bonus point score.
Moffat’s numerical advantage allowed them to score once more for a final score of 35-24, securing third place and leaving Lochaber to settle for fourth.
