The youngsters of Campbeltown and District Juvenile Football Association (CDJFA) have returned to training after the Easter holiday - but 38 players were lucky enough to land a trip to Glasgow during the break.
Boys and girls from the 2015, 2014, and 2013 age groups were able to enjoy the fun day out in the city thanks to a successful grant application to the Campbeltown Common Good Fund.
The children visited Super Soccer in Glasgow where they played bubble football and football darts, before heading to New Douglas Park to take in a Hamilton versus Falkirk game, in what was a first match experience for some of the children.
Claire Mitchell, of the CDJFA, said: “We believe it is important for the children to go along and experience professional football.
“One great reason to get your children into watching football is to provide them with role models and inspiration. In terms of personal development, watching football as a child can also be very useful and can give youngsters a better understanding of positioning and tactics.”
The children were treated to hospitality during their visit, with a fantastic spread put on to keep them fuelled up.
Claire added: “A very special thank you to our official John Martin for driving the coach, and thank you to our group leaders Stephen Ramsay, Lindsay Cox, Emma Anderson, Jamie and Leighann Burns, Sharon Kerr, Shaun and Gloria Grumoli, Diana Mackenzie, Carol Allibone, Daniel N, Melanie Burns, Kim Mathieson and Rhys Blair for giving up their time to allow the day to go ahead.
“This was a very successful trip and a fantastic team-building experience for our children.”
She said: “Every week, we watch our young players train hard, have fun at training, and catch up with friends. When they are older, they will probably remember going to football and their coaches but they probably won’t never remember every single session, what they chatted about and what they worked on – but most will remember trips like this for the rest of their lives.”
CDJFA is now planning a trip for the girls’ section which will also be part-funded through the Campbeltown Common Good Fund.
