Horse riders in Ardrishaig were invited to Pier Square on Saturday to celebrate The Kelpies.
It was the 10th anniversary of the unveiling of iconic sculptures in Falkirk, created by sculptor Andy Scott, which form the gateway of the Forth and Clyde Canal.
The smaller maquette sculptures of the steel horses, one tenth of the size of their larger 30-metre tall brothers, were installed in Ardrishaig at the gateway of the Crinan Canal in 2019.
Ishbel Hawson, owner of Polly’s Coffee Stop, hosted a small shindig to mark the day by taking her portable cabin to Ardrishaig.
She handed out tasty carrots to horses and delicious coffee and cakes to riders, who were able to have their photographs taken beside the statues with their real horses.
Debbie MacLachlan rode down from Glengilp on Jilly, joined by Miriam Tarn on Jigsaw from Brackley.
They said it was a lovely ride out, good fun for the horses and riders, with treats for both.
Polly’s is usually based at Lock 10 at Dunardry, but she is licensed to travel anywhere on the canal.
Ishbel serves up homemade cakes, pastries, pies and sausage rolls made using local produce, and likes to support community events.
She said: “I saw they were doing a big thing at the big Kelpies, so I thought I’d have a wee one here.
“I’ll be back in Ardrishaig when the Waverley comes in on July 15.
“About 90 per cent of my business is local. I’m open during the winter and summer months, 9am (ish) to 5pm (ish). People still need to walk their dog in the winter, and a cold dog walk with a nice hot coffee at the end of it is better than without one.
“If it gets people out and about, and out walking that’s great.”
Polly will be at the Kirnan Curated vintage sale in Kilmichael on May 11-12. At other times, she can be found at Lock 10 or on other stretches of the canal.
