Pub worker Lucy Anderson has been hailed a hero after saving a man from choking on a chicken dinner.
Lucy, who works part-time at the Lorne Bar, grabbed the choking man and carried out the Heimlich Manoeuvre, which she learned years ago on a first aid course while working as a carer.
She said: "It all happened so quickly but the technique just came back to me. I saw he was turning red and really struggling, so I just grabbed him straight away and out came the chicken."
Lucy, who was working a shift at the Lorne when it happened, added: "I’d headed over to the table to ask how their food was when I realised the man was trying to clear his throat, hoping his pint of Tennant’s would wash whatever was stuck down, but it wasn’t working. He began to go very red."
The modest student says she was just in the right place at the right time.
She added: "He was very grateful afterwards and kept telling everyone how I’d saved him. He said he really thought that was him gone and that he’d never been in such a panic before. I’m glad I was there to help."
"He had been eating with friends before the pub quiz started and the quiz master kept giving me shout outs during the night. It was nice to be appreciated," added Lucy, who is also studying beauty care at college in Oban.
The man she helped, who works at Aulay’s pub, is recovering well.
