This year’s Easdale’s World Stone Skimming Championship has sold out - in a record 29 minutes.
Demand is always high for the championships, officially recognised as the competitive summit of the stone skimming world that are held annually on the tiny Hebridean island.
Entries for 2024 opened at 6pm on April 27 and all places were snapped up less that half an hour later.

The date of this year’s event is September 7.
Truly an international event, the successful 350 entrants will represent over 25 different countries from across the globe including New Zealand, Japan, Canada, Argentina, Bolivia, Thailand and the USA.
Standards will be incredibly high as the reigning World Champion Finn Dower and eight-time World Champion winner Dougie Isaacs will be returning, plus the reigning Swiss Champion Kaian Ammann, who is determined to take the trophy home.
"We cannot wait to welcome the world back to Easdale to feast in the joy of intense gladiatorial skimming combat," said Kyle Matthews on behalf of the organisers.
Home to the Championships since its inception in 1983, the flooded 19th-century slate quarry takes the shape of a rock amphitheatre providing a unique challenge for skimmers to try their hand.
The back wall towers more than seven metres out of the water, 64 metres from the skimmers’ stance. If they can hit it, the reward is guaranteed passage to the ’toss off’, the grand finale of the championship, and a chance at lifting the coveted Donald Melville Cup.
Last year saw the championships successfully returned with a bang after a three-year enforced hiatus, raising over £9,000 for community charities.
Tickets for that event sold out within 40 minutes, while the championships itself attracted both national and international media, plus over 1,000 spectators.
